Feeding schedule for a 2-month-old baby
✓ Last verified against the official sources on September 1, 2026.
Milk is still everything
At this age milk — breast milk or formula — is all your baby needs. Solid food isn’t necessary yet, and isn’t advisable either: the digestive system simply isn’t ready.
Around 6 weeks many babies hit another growth spurt — extra demand is part of it.
What changes this month
Around six weeks a second growth spurt often follows, with extra demand and shorter naps. At the same time feeds get a little bigger and the number per day slowly drops. There is still no fixed schedule, but you will start to recognize a pattern.
An example day
This is what a day could look like. It is an example, not a prescription: your baby tells you when they are hungry, and that shifts from day to day.
A strict schedule doesn’t belong here yet. Feeding on demand is the guidance: your baby tells you when they are hungry, and early on that is anything but regular. The times below are there to give a feel for the rhythm, not to set your clock by.
| Around | What |
|---|---|
| 7am | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| 10am | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| 1pm | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| 4pm | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| 7pm | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| 10pm | Milk feed (3–4 oz (90–120 ml)) |
| overnight | One or two feeds on demand |
No solids yet. The AAP advises starting solid foods at around 6 months, when your baby can sit with support and hold their head steady.
What about breastfeeding?
With breastfeeding you don’t count ounces — feeding on demand is the guidance, and your baby regulates the amount. The volumes above are for formula; the number of feeds a day is still a useful reference point either way.
Working it out for your baby
The rule of thumb is 2.5 oz per pound of body weight a day (150 ml per kilo), spread across the feeds — capped at about 7 oz per bottle. Work it out with your baby’s weight →
